Upon graduation from 03-68 I was sent to Hawaii. A nice break from
OCS. Before I went to Vietnam I went to 0220 school at Ft Gordon. I
arrived in Jan 69 in Vietnam. I served as platoon leaders for various
platoons of the 39th Signal Battalion. So I saw a lot of III Corps to
include Vung Tau, Nha Be, Can Tho, and various smaller sites.
When I returned from Vietnam I was an instructor at the Infantry School
at Benning school for boys.
I returned to Vietnam in Aug of 70 for my second tour. I spent a tour as
Company Commander of Co A, 13th Sig Bn of the 1ST Air Cav. I then spent
time in the operations section until the CAV went home. I stayed with
the 1st Sig Bde working out of the CMAV, a unit that supervised the turn
over of communications to civilian contractors and the Vietnamese.
After returning to the states I was a supervisor in the 31M school at Ft
Gordon until my discharge in 1972.
I started a home improvement company with my father but left after
realizing I could have a partner or a father, but not both. I spent over
10 years as a full time training officer with a signal battalion of the
Alabama Guard.
After that I got into computers, both hardware and programming and made
my living doing that for several years. My company got bought by GE and
eventually moved my job to India. I then worked in software support
until my retirement in April of 2015.
I completed over 27 years between active duty, national guard, and
reserves, so I retired as a LTC.
I live in Pensacola, FL, have two children and a grandchild.
