It's Popcorn Time !
This
month we've got a whole bunch of new movies for you. An
hour's worth of entertainment to keep you busy while
Memorial Day slowly segues into what we hope will be a long
hot summer. Hey, look, you can't go to the beach... it's
covered with oil. So why not put your feet up and enjoy just
sitting around the house for a change? Forget the Honey Do
list. Take some time out for yourself. Catch a movie.... an
old Army Signal Corps movie, that is.
The video below contains a collection of WWII Army Signal
Corps produced movies. Collected and submitted by Robert
Oelrich, Class 10-42, they provide a good solid hour of entertainment. In
this day of political correctness where you are not allowed
to say anything without fear of hurting someone's feelings,
it's almost painful to hear the straight talk used in these
movies. So grab a beer, sit back, and see how the world's
greatest geneation saw the world back then.
NOTE: The audio
is a bit out of synch for the first 1:18 seconds of the movie,
and the videojumps a bit too, but all settles down
soon thereafter and the rest of the movie is just
fine. Relax. Be patient. Heck, the movie's older than you are.
NOTE: For full screen viewing, after the movie
starts, right click on the screen and select "Zoom" then
"Full Screen." Hit the escape key at any time to get back to
normal size.
How about one more movie to relax your mind?
Remember when you first joined the Army... way back
before you became an Officer and things started to look
good? In those early days everything in the Army seemed
all fouled up. We even had a word for it back then...
SNAFU.
Well, it's time to meet Private SNAFU.
Can you identify it? It's an M47 Dragon anti-tank
weapon. Bet you wish you had one of these to stop that
dog next door from barking all night long.
Happy Memorial Day...
Stop a moment this weekend... put your 9 iron down...
pull your golf cap off... get down on one knee... just for a moment... if you have to,
do it when no one is looking... and remember them.
How about a quiz to see if you
are awake?
Can you identify this beach?
How about this guy?
Who is he?
...hint:
He led the South Vietnamese army under Prime Minister Diem.
After Diem’s assassination he led Vietnam for three months
before being replaced, and briefly led South Vietnam again
in 1975 before surrendering the nation to the North
Vietnamese communists.
What ship is this, what year is it, what
is the vessel doing, and why the hell do we care what the
Navy does?
