67 09 OCS Class (150)
Off-base "social" arranged with a local Augusta girls' college. Prior to this evening, we received
several hours of instruction on how to behave as officers and gentlemen, even though at this stage we were
neither. Lt. Jimmy Conlee (TAC Officer) even took his class out, in small groups
of 4, to dinner off-base in an upscale restaurant, in order to teach us how to
sit, eat, and handle ourselves in public. For most of us, it was the first time
we learned there was a difference between a dinner and a desert fork. For a few
of us, it was the first time we actually saw one of each.
