All of us who graduated from one of the Era Signal OCS Programs are
no longer in our ‘prime.’ (Sorry – I didn’t mean to shock
you!) Because we are ‘on up in years,’ it is natural to reflect on
life past and life future. However, all too many of us don’t take
the time to reflect on the NOW. Many things have been written about
the importance of appreciating where we are and how far we’ve come
and how much we have accomplished and the difference we have made in
many people’s lives and how much we are blessed. I encourage you to
begin to appreciate all the great things in your life and put the
negative things in the proper perspective…far away in your
memory. One of the best poems I’ve read about ‘perspective’ on life
is written below.
Drinking From The Saucer
by John Paul Moore
I've Never Made A Fortune and It's Probably Too
Late Now
But I Don't Worry About That Much, I’m Happy
Anyhow
And As I Go Along Life's Journey I’m Reaping
Better Than I Sow
I’m Drinking From the Saucer 'cause My Cup Has
Overflowed
Haven't Got A Lot Of Riches and Sometimes The
Going's Tough
But I've Got Loving Ones Around Me and That
Makes Me Rich Enough
I Thank God For His Blessings and The Mercies
He's Bestowed
I’m Drinking From the Saucer 'cause My Cup Has
Overflowed
I Remember Times When Things went Wrong my Faith
Wore Somewhat Thin
But All At Once The Dark Clouds Broke and Sun
Peeped Through Again
So Lord, Help Me Not To Gripe about The Tough
Rows That I've Hoed
I’m Drinking From the Saucer "cause My Cup Has
Overflowed
If God Gives Me Strength And Courage when The
Way Grows Steep And Rough
I’ll Not Ask For Other Blessings I’m Already
Blessed Enough
And May I Never Be Too Busy to Help Others Bear
Their Loads
Then I'll Keep Drinking From the Saucer cause My
Cup Has Overflowed!
Wow, what a great perspective on life. You can
also find some great instruction on appreciation in the Bible…for
example, 1 Chronicles 16:34 says,
“Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He
is good! For His mercy endures forever.” Whatever
you find to be grateful for be sure to spread that feeling of
appreciation to others in your life. That’s what I plan to do.
I appreciate all of you! May you perceive
God’s blessing more and more everyday. Max Holt, Class 02-67 -
